While a border is not a requirement, it does enhance the overall look and feel. The most common borders are merrowed and satin stitched. A merrowed border is sewn on after the patch is embroidered and overlocks around its edge. It will appear to loop around the front of the patch to the back. Merrowed borders are perfect for patches that are more symmetrical in shape. If you believe you will use a “sew-on” application, then a merrowed border might be the way to go. This type of border offers the patch a more “traditional” look or style. A satin stitched border is embroidered directly into the surface of the patch leaving the edges trim and clean. It is most used when the desired effect is to look like direct embroidery. This type of border is excellent for irregular shaped designs and heat seal applications. The patches/emblems are cut out to the exact shape of the design. Stitched borders are usually between 1/16' and 1/8' wide.
We will be glad to assist you in choosing the right border for your embroidered patch or emblem project.

Work on any type of asbestos can be dangerous. However, work on textured coatings can be carried out by non-licensed workers who are appropriately trained. This work would generally not need to be notified.
If the work is likely to cause significant break up and deterioration of the material such as large scale removal using steaming or gelling methods, then notification would be required.
